ESP Vintage-4 or LTD Vintage-204

I'm considering getting an ESP or LTD bass. The ESP model has better hardware, and electronics. However, I'm wondering if I modded an LTD, if it would be just as good as the ESP (While saving quite a bit of cash?)

I think the LTD is a great bass for the price but I would look for a used ESP instead of modding the LTD. It may take some time, but the right one will show up at a good price. A red ESP Vintage 4 just sold on eBay for $575. There is currently a cream colored one for $600 shipped. (Search for "ESP Vintage Four" not "4" on eBay.) by the time you mod the Ltd (new tuners and pickups) you are close to used ESP price.

Thank you for the advice. I'm not in a rush, so eBay looks like an excellent option.
