Being SX has QC all over the place, I can't guarantee you'll have the same results, but that is my experience.

Remember vintage Fenders had really loose neck joints and gaps in the fit were very common, so I would go for what ever I could afford, and try to upgrade the neck...but some SX necks are great, some not...so you are back to rolling the dice with them...my two cents
My bass pictured back a few posts has an SX neck and Squier body. I had to have the pocket widened to accept the the neck.

I have heard that Squiers are a little off by design to discourage, or make it a little more difficult to drop a Fender neck on a Squier body and pass it as a Fender...or in many eyes, being a shortcut to a real Fender...but I don't know for sure. I mentioned this once before, and a couple of people responded by saying they had Fender necks that popped right in their Squiers...again I don't know. But I am inclined to think that if you had put a Fender neck on your particular Squier, you would have had to do the same thing..again There's no way for me to know that. Sx has had periods of good QC, and bad QC. Fender has definitely had problems during the course of their history where QC was a problem, but I think they are on their "A" game these days. But I don't think we have enough consistency with either of these brands where someone can say beyond any doubt that all SX parts "A" will fit Squier/Fender Parts "B" without modification...hell or even SX part "B", lol.
Sorry for the long post!

Just like my Ursa, my Squier VM P has stayed stock. No desire to change them really...My SX's that had the headstock everyone loved were modded to hell and back.

I've never been a fan of 30" E strings, let alone B strings!

I wonder how hard it would be to put together a six string piccolo set. Bet that would cure the B string twanginess.

Love that color. I think they call it electric blue. Very nice.

Yeah I almost got the white, but there was something about that blue that changed my mind.

Thinking about one of these short P's also. How well does it balance on a standard nylon strap?

It's great with my leather strap, no problems at all. Just tried it with the nylon strap that came with and it was less good than the leather strap (some dive), but I also didn't spend a huge amount of time fine-tuning the strap adjustment.

Thoughts on the SX fretless PJ? (SX Ursa 3 RN CAR Fretless, red, rosewood)
In my experience with cheapo PJ's the j pup was always kinda weak.

Yes, that the standard thing. It's because the P pickups are just naturally hotter because of the bigger flatter coils. So either you just leave it that way so the bass sounds like a real P-bass when then P pickup is soloed or you underwind the P-pickup so they match and then it doesn't sound exactly like a "real" P-bass even when the P is soloed. I don't know what SX does on theirs, but I prefer the weak J so the soloed P sounds like a real P-bass.

Might help a little to crank the P pickup down and raise tha J as high as you can get it. But yeah, they will likely never really balance.

It was fine on my PJ. My Foundation S with Dimarzios suffers from it more than the SX did.

Been looking at getting a 4 string SX and turning it into a piccolo. Anyone have thoughts or ideas on this? Obviously a short scale model.

MarlowDK on here and utube did that a couple 3 years ago and it seemed to work pretty well.
