I've considered going all black with the hardware on mine, too. Then I started adding chrome and fell in love with that look.

Especially with a single-ply black pickguard.

So, I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere in the pages upon pages of SX mods, but I am still curious. What sizes of tuners and bridge will fit on the ursa 2?

Check out the Accessories page on the Rondo site. The tuners that they sell all have the measurements in their descriptions.

Where does the SX fit (favorite to least favorite) with your basses?

I would say (at the moment) second in line. My MIA Fender is an amazing instrument, and is setup perfectly for me. That is by far my favorite.

But the SX gets a ton of play, being only a few weeks old. It's also setup really nice and gives me a different tone than the P.

The Dillion SCPB gets played mostly at home. Just isn't as comfortable to play in my band, because we play more complex heavy rock stuff and it has a higher action. I still bring it to practice from time to time.

Maybe I'm blind, but all I'm seeing on their site is regular 6 string guitar tuners.

Rip Topaz, if you try a tiny drop of machine oil on those tuners, they will feel completely different and you may decide against replacing them. Mine felt rough when new and I oiled them one night and the next day they felt great.

Mine were actually dripping with oil when it arrived. They feel, I don't know, breakable. I'm not saying they'll ever be a problem, but I'm also digging this bass enough that I'm willing to put a little extra into it. I've already put quite a bit of work into getting it playing its best.

Got the hook up from a fellow TBer on SX ashtrays. I think they really pop with the blue. Heres a look.

I don't bother with the bridge cover on mine, since I only really use the ashtrays for photos. I've got a pickup cover but it gets in the way too much for my style of playing. It's the same way with my single coil P-bass. I've got a full set of ashtrays for that one, but only put them on when there's pictures being taken.

I think I'm going to make a small pickup ring for my neck pickup. I've got some leftover Bakelite in the shop, I could make it just like a tiny pickguard just big enough to hide the funky route.

Maybe a cool shape, something unique.

The pup ring is a good idea. I wanna see what you come up with. Ashtrays dont get in the way for me. I float my thumb between the neck and neck pup.

I don't anchor my thumb in any permanent spot while playing, but over the pickup is the worst thing to take away. I get a great tone playing right over the pickup, though on a Jazz I gravitate towards the bridge pickup, and I also find myself playing with a pick more with my current band.

I'm gonna sketch a few things up for the pickup ring. Maybe by the weekend I'll cut something.

I love the sound of playing over the bridge pickup. But I find it uncomfortable. So I stick with what I like. Look forward to your pup ring designs. I think its cool and unique and something guardless jazzes would look good with.

I've seen chrome ones but they're just so expensive, like $60-80. I can cut one from pickguard material for much less
