"Essex" Traditional Series J-Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys. I have a chance to pick up an Essex J-Bass from a guy of craigslist. I have a couple of questions about it first.

1. Is 'essex' the same as 'sx'?
2. Can you notice a P-Bass from a J-Bass THAT much?
3. How much should I offer for it (the guy doesnt know anything about instruments, it was his sons and he just wants to sell it)

Thanks guys!

essex and sx are the same thing. Jazz basses have a contoured heel and a more midrangey sound. you get a variety of sounds as you have 2 pickups. They are 109 new but this one might have the old headstock. if its in good condition offer like 80.

Make sure the neck is nice and straight and that the truss rod will move, otherwise buy one from Rondo music new.

I recently got my next to new SX P-bass from a pawn shop for $75.
They were asking $100, but I took a scan off the Rondo site for what they cost new, and the were willing to go $75.

Good luck!

It will sound quite different from a jazz, but that is just a good reason to get another bass. Hard to beat a P-bass with flatwound strings.

Jazz bass with flatwound strings....but one must quantify what "beat" means...

Don't ask me, I'm still trying to find the #@$#& "trust rod" on a bass!

I would hesitate to use the phrase "very good bassist" in any association with my name
