Yeah.
I had an American BC Rich bass. Might of been a Mockingbird model.I got it stupid cheap off a guy who played in an 80's spandex band
who had some kind of endorsement deal. It played and sounded great but it had an awful bright puke metallic green lizard skin crackle foil finish. I should of stripped the pickups, preamp& hardware off it.I sold it for cheap to another guy in a spandex band ( It was the 80's).
Wish I had a picture. It was butt ugly! Even by 80's standards.

The '87 Ibanez RD707 in Megenta, in the pic above. It's a great player, but it's hard to look at under bright lights. Hardcore 80's.

BTW, I still have it. It's the one I could part with though.

If I don't like the look of it, I wouldn't buy it in the first place.

I had a perfectly good black Modulus VJ but I just couldn't stand how it held fingerprints...and black is my favorite color.

That was my first thought. Why would you buy it in the first place if you didn't like the way it looks?

Got rid of a RW P-bass with a RW J-neck because I couldnt get used to Fiesta Red. If it would have been burst, Id probably still have it. Im not crazy about burst but much prefer it to Pink.

Considering my financial state, I really haven't bought anything I couldn't stand to look at. However, there have been a few basses I decided against because I thought they looked silly.

To answer the "why did you buy it in the first place?" question.

Black is my favorite color, I'd never owned a black bass. It looked freaking awesome freshly cleaned and polished. But it never lasted long without fingerprints and smudges.

Not "got rid of", but I can't get myself to buy a Musicman Bongo because of the looks. Good thing I love Stingrays and Big Als so I don't need to!

My policy as well but tastes change. In the case of the bass I'm about to sell, I bought it a year ago almost entirely because I loved the way it looked. Now... not so much, lol.

In my case, I bought it with every intention of stripping off the Magenta color and experimenting with my own refinishing project. Then, I was informed that these basses in this color was uncommon/rare, and it could possibly be collectible someday... Since it is all original, I decided to heed those words and leave it alone. My 11 year old daughter really likes it as is, so she has it in her room now.

It's funny how the general consensus' have changed over the years as far as appearance goes. It seems like when the tone of a particular bass gains popularity(again) they look cooler than they ever did.

How do you figure? I promise I'm not being sarcastic or intentionally dense or anything I just haven't noticed any trend like that. Then again I haven't been playing for very long either.

I've never gotten rid of anything other than broken strings. It looks like I'm living in a music store over here. :/

An overall really nice neck with beautiful profile, finish and feel, maple fingerboard in great shape.

Kramer pointy droopy headstock. One of the few appearance things that I really just can't hack. ( for me ) Went with a Fender profile neck.
