Ever had a bass you hated more than anything and then it became your #1

I have had a squire j bass for a little more than a year now and I have hated it every step of the way. couldnt stand the tone. changed out the pickups to 1/4 pound duncans and hated it even more. put on flats hoping maybe it could be a cool mellow blues bass and hated it even more. finally two weeks ago I decided to sell it but the day I posted the ad on CL I found an awesome deal on an Emg J set so I figured whats the worst it could do. My squire j bass is now my favorite bass. puts my ray 34 to shame in every sense of the word. I just cant believe that one set of pickups could fix everything about this bass. anyone else had a similar experiance

I must. I had never tried them before but I do know that I prefer active pickups to passives.
