Recently I've been looking around for a backup/second stage bass (currently I have a cheapo P copy and a Dean Metalman Z, no gigging the P but the Dean is crap!) to have around my Kramer. I've found a few V shaped basses, and got me thinking about the Epiphone Flying V bass that I saw when I was browsing around for a new bass a couple of years ago.
I've recently fallen in love with the Flying V shape (after I acquiring an Epiphone Flying V - high quality too!) and want to get a Flying V bass. The old Korina Flying V bass combines classic Flying V with bass.
I can find a Stagg V bass (crap headstock though), a Dean Metalman V (NO NO NO), and a Gear4Music V bass (which is the best of the ones I can find).
Shame they don't make it any more. Anyone else regretted not buying a bass in the past? |

It had extensive headstock repair and I kept thinking about it and when I decided to buy it, it had been sold. There are probably others, but that's the one I really remember.

I was already bidding on a G&L SB1 which I won and still have, so I didn't keep bidding on the Warwick. I rarely see in Flash Fortresses for sale and wish I would have got that one.

When I was 15, the music store where I took lessons was selling Pre-CBS Music Man Sting Ray with clear finish ash body black pickguard maple fretboard for $200. I already was buying a Rickenbacker 4001 Jetglo from them. My parents wouldn't help me here.
2. A year later another music store nearby was selling a Schecter P-bass with ash body white pickguard Schaller bridge Duncan Qtr Lbs P- and J- pickups maple fretboard and Tele headstock with chunky massive neck. It was $699 and I already ordered my G&L L2000 from another store for $99 less.
This was back around 1982-4.
Still stings thinking about those.

I missed the end of the auction and it sold for about $150. I can't remember why, but it was my ex-wife's fault and clearly, I have never forgotten the bass that got away.

I've never significantly regretted not buying a bass, but probably about ten years ago when I was looking to upgrade from my first starter amp, I went to a local music store that was selling an Eden WT-500 and 410T cab for $300 each. I still kick myself on occasion for not recognizing what a killer deal that was, especially the head.

You can't take it with you and there will always be something newer or better or vintage or whatever. I'm guilty of it too, but when it comes to gear, it's just wood, metal, electronics etc. Don't believe the hype. At least I keep telling myself that. You are the most important ingredient in the chain. Now I have regretted selling some items. A 1979 Fender Jazz, black with a maple board, and white MOP block inlays. she was young and fine. Worth some money today.

But then again, I havent had an opportunity to buy a '62 Jazz or similar at a garage sale for a stupidly low price, as an example.
I kinda wish I stocked up on pawn shop Pre-EB Stingrays, RICs and early '70s Fenders when they were all in the $350 range in the early '80s, but I was making $3.15/hr part time in a movie theatre.... Kinda unrealistic.

Sometimes you gotta go with the impulse. The trick is to know when.
