Ever See One of these J Basses ?

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone ever owned/played a J Bass with two J pups in the bridge position where the two cancel out the hum? I guess it's like a humbucker, but sounds more like a fatter single coil to me. I would think this configuration would be more popular on Js , but I rarely see it -- I don't think Fender makes one . You could wire them with a push/pull pot so that either both bridge single coils would be on or just the one closest to the bridge in the traditional bridge position for a classic J bass bridge sound.

Basically yes. Can you split the bridge coils with your controls?

On the one above, no. That switch is just a passive/active switch. I have seen J basses among others before with switches that do allow to blend between series and parallel (Fender Jazz with S-1 switch comes to mind). A good example what you're looking for (not a proper Jazz unfortunately) would be the Warwick FNA Jazzman, despite it being in the name and everything.

I replaced the bridge pickup on my Squier VM Jazz with a Seymour Duncan MM pickup. I wired it to a 3-way switch so that I can choose from Series humbucking, Parallel humbucking, and single coil. In single coil mode, it still sounds very much like a traditional jazz bass. In both humbucking modes, you have all the punch you would ever want.

No sir, that is incorrect wrt stock Sandberg models although it may be possible to get a custom config with a mini toggle as passive/active selector.

The Sandberg's that have active electronics all have a push pull volume pot that bypasses the electronics, TM models have the mini toggle that splits the bridge 'M' pickup. If you want a more vintage sound on the J mode, Sandberg can offer the Delano Hybrid system as an upgrade (upcharge applies)

The Fender Roscoe Beck bass has two paired jazz type PUs.
Each switchable between series, parallel and single coil.

Is that a P or J bass-did not see it on Fender Website, although I saw it for sale by some dealers?

Part of the Artist Series, but discontinued. Has an asymetrical Jazz-width neck. Passive, but a huge amount of tonal options. Not really advertised or marketed, named after a great bass player who is nowhere near a household name. If more people had known about it, Fender probably would not have discontinued it.
