Ever sell a bass because it's too heavy?

Contemplating passing on my Ash/Maple MIA P bass. I like the sound and have had it since 98' and have taken great care of it but it's feeling like a lot to carry around these days.

I also have an Ash/Maple 99' MIA Jazz but it's much lighter and it's been a pleasure to use, sound and weight wise.

Sorry, posted these pics a few times already.

If I can't shoulder bass for 1 hour straight without discomfort, I sell it. What's the weight?
Nice pair btw.

Yes, A steinberger full body doubleneck bass and guitar. Had solid maple body so shoulda known itd be too heavy. But price was right.... All the other doublenecks Ive owned weighed 12 and half pounds or less. This one easilly weighed 13 or more pounds. Too much to be a whole gig instrument so sold it rather then try to make bass side more satisfactory sound wise.

9.8 isn't so bad.
But if you find it uncomfortable, then why keep it?

Yep, do it!

I've sold a few for this reason the worst of which was a Warwick Thumb Neck-thru (Wenge Neck) 6 string... that thing was HEAVY!

When I got my Thumb I almost flipped it because of the weight. Then I bought a wide-ish padded soft leather strap and it's much better. Have you considered doing that instead?

My standard gigging bass is a modified BB300... I love it but HOLY CRAP IS IT HEAVY! I really want to replace it and retire it. Looking towards the Ibanez SR series. My band has one and lets me play it but I don't like borrowing gear AT ALL and it's pretty gaudy with it's read and orange sunburst (I'm a simple black kind of guy). Id' go buy one right now but times have been tough out here on the rock lately.

i have, and while it does make things better, i still suffered. ultimately i decided i had to quit playing heavier basses.

Yes, I sold my 99' Warwick Standard Corvette Active with a short scale neck (from the factory and slimmed down by a local luthier)....I loved it and it played beautifully but it was near 8 lbs and I have a neck and back problem and just couldn't keep it....

I'd also sold an 89' PRS CE 24 Maple Bolt On because of weight.....that was a wonderful guitar but.....

More than 1. One reason I play my Sadowskys so much now besides the great sound. I have a US Spector that is a bit heavy for me but I'll keep it for the studio alone. It sounds too good to part with.

Yes. I bought one of those nice Italia wide 4" straps and it helps a bit but it still gets old fast.

Yup, sold my German bubinga Warwick 5er - it was heavy. Heavier than the MIJ 75 jazz RI I also sold.

My 1989 Stingray 5. Sold it here, actually. Weighed around 12 lbs and gave me a pinched shoulder nerve after an 8 day tour. Still miss it-it was a beast!
