I did. I traded my 79' Mocha/walnut P bass a bass I really loved for a '73 gibson J-45/50 acoustic that I fell in love with at a shop last week. I loved that bass and it had great tone but was heavy and was not all original RI bridge, pickguard but besides that was all there. I figured the value at $1200-$1500 on the high which I doubted i could get if I sold it.
The guitar was $1200 so an even swap. I have a '83 SQ Squier that since I bought it has been my go to and the 79' sat in its case. the 83' squier is one of the best built/sounding basses I have ever played and weighs less although weight was not a huge deal.
Has anyone else dare done anything like this before? Trade a bass for a guitar or dare say something else?

After all most of us here are guys, and you know we love our toys! I believe those of us with multiple basses probably have done it more than others. We probably have a favorite so that leaves us some bargaining pieces if something comes along we just can't seem to live without.

Since I know the owner and traded with him before to get the P bass, I saw a chance to own something I wanted/needed more at this time. My others basses are not worth near as much as the P bass I traded and in truth the only reason I liked it more than the other 3 I own that it was the oldest Fender I owned. I love vintage old guitars and basses much more than anything made today for the most part.... Fenders and Gibsons.

Traded an 85 MIJ Squier Strat for an 83 MIJ Squier P, oddly enough.
I did ok, I think.
Congrats on the new axe.

wraub | Like I said that 83' MIJ Squier P bass are a real gem and getting hard to find. To me and many they were built, play and sound as good as any MIA P bass. This is what made me trade the 79' P since I had a solid P bass behind it that in some ways I guess I liked more.

No regrets... The bass I sold wasn't being played much. |

| | | | Last year I traded my Taylor 414 LTD CE acoustic guitar for a Music Man Sterling 4H. I was pleased with the trade as it got me turned on to Music Man basses.

I know some of you might cringe at that, but that 84 American Standard P Bass was (despite being my first Bass) the dullest most lifeless bass I've ever seen with the Fender logo. The Tele Bass was nice, but just not at all versatile ,nor was it's sound suited to my musical tastes.
