I've ALWAYS been curious about these basses. This thing goes W-A-Y off the path for Jackson,or any other maker, for that matter. Anybody owned/played one of these??

I'm just wondering how this thing sounds with the woods it's derived from. A SPRUCE BODY??!!

The 'tonewood' folks will be along soon.
My guess? It sounds like a Jazz bass.

Jack from TBC has been talking about trying out some unusual woods for the basses he builds.

For some reason, any discussion of wood and tone on TB degenerates into two camps' viewpoints: one that thinks the wood makes all the difference and one that thinks the wood makes no difference.

I'd say not worth the money. All hype and image. For half that or less there are many other basses equal or better than that one....

And for the record: IMO the wood makes no real world difference. Note, I said IMO....

That thing looks like a reflection of a bass in a funhouse mirror.

If you're one of those people who believes "the uglier = the cooler" then you have found your dream bass.

That is one butt-ugly bass IMHO!

None for me, thanks.

No big surprise. Spruce is commonly used in violins, DB's, guitars and other stringed instruments, particularly for their top pieces. The surprise should be that spruce isn't used in EB's more often.

As for this particular bass: ugly as sin. Even uglier than some of the Wishbasses and other weird crap out there. No wonder Jackson stopped making them. I would sooner give my soul to the Mothman than spend that much on something that looked like that.

It's not that bad imo. Certainly not the strangest shape I've ever seen on a bass...

I am the resident Jackson freak around here and have had p.l.e.n.t.y of everything jackson and charvel made.
What did it sound like? Sounded like every other Jackson I have over here, nothing special to me anyway.

AND they want a grand too much for what it is ( or isn't ). the trans blue one was 1595.00. It always reminded me of another take on the Collen bass they had around in the early 90's ( which I still have )

It makes me think of something Tune would've designed. I'd rock it, if it sounded good and was comfy to play. I wouldn't pay that much, though.
