How is it that every bass selling or sold on Talkbass, regardless of price, age, condition, use or lack of use, is a better bass than any Fender? Some ads just seem to trot out the same B.S. funny really. Every bass being sold is Fantastic!
I am so confused which one to buy!!!!

Same thing when I go to any retail store, if you read the description of the product being sold, they all sound like they're good or something. |

Would you buy a car (or bass) if it were advertised as "just OK"? Or "decent"? Of course not. It's called marketing, my boy, and when used effectively, can really work. |

Why? Because its bought, used and cared for by real bassists, and often they are upgraded to better electronics, better nuts, bridges, etc.
However, I would agree, an Ibanez 400 with upgrades still won't outdo the low serial number vintage '51 or '57 P, or the '61 stacked knob Jazz.
My Kubicki's and Steinbergers, however, are all much better then Fender....

It is a great bass. It is better than a Fender as Fender doesn't offer this type of bass.
Yeah, some ads read funny, and there are some obvious cliches out there, but for some basses/ads, it's the truth. There are also ads that say straight out that this is a parts bass, or there is a knob missing, etc.

Could be yours for 850!
Don't mind I've bumped it 47 times! |

From vintage to modern. I didn't start the thread to evaluate Fender's place in the market or in guitar history but rather as the comparison most often made as a reference point for some very funny ads. |

IMO, YMMV

Yeah. Ah, no. Don't get your Fender love panties in a wad. In my experience, used Fenders are better - because trying them new at a store is hit or miss most times.
Sheesh. |
