Yes it's an MIA. I don't think they'd sell too many 2000 dollar MIMs

I'd make the Warmoth version and get an even nicer bass for less than half the price.

That pickguard and the overlapping control plate look amateurish and awkward to me. I'm sure it sounds fine though.

It's no different than any other tele bass.

They just narrowed the horns because the body shape is more sleek than the original slab style.

True, and I feel that way about all of them. Why would an expensive instrument have a control plate and pickguard that overlap? It looks like spare parts thrown together. Wouldn't make any difference to me if I liked the way a bass sounded and felt, but the looks lack for me.

Guess we'll never know. Can't go ask Leo. Personally I see nothing wrong with it, but it's what I'm used to seeing.

I played around a wee bit on the one they had displayed at NAMM. I was expecting to hate it but didn't. It's basically an American Standard P-bass with a two piece ash body and different face. It was lighter than I expected, felt under 9lbs, and the wood grain looked nice with the wash they did.

Actually I don't know why they narrowed the horns on the pickguard because the one pictured here (the traditional one) fits just fine. The contour doesn't affect it, same one fits the contoured 55 (like the CS reissues or the Sting model).

My local Fender dealer is going to call me when they get one in.

I want to try it out in person.

I do like the looks, much better than the PG on the later Ps.

If it had a Tele head stock and a single coil pickup, it would move from the “I like it and can afford it” category into the “I really want it arena”.

MM

You can see in this picture that it probably wouldnt fit. The 51 slab body doesn't have rounded edges, and i'm prettysure with that original pickguard it would hang over the rounded edges. http://www.fender.com/themes/product...ass_front2.jpg Plus over all i think it just makes the bass look more modern.

Looks are subjective, but the traditional guard fits, the contour doesn't matter. Check out my CS '55:

proven wrong. I unno why they changed it. I guess because they could? More than likely like i said to make it more modern. It makes it a cross between the pickguard on a split coil p bass and the traditional.

I've been looking at getting myself a P-bass and just ordered one of these. I think they look quite nice and hope they sound and play nice too. Can't wait!

I think it looks awesome as is, but I can't help but imagine how much "awesomer" it would be with a MM humbucker at the bridge. Oh my, I better change my pants.

When this was first posted on here somebody cynically noted that they must have a lot of unused Mike Dirnt bodies kicking around...
