Experts on Fender's transitional basses btwn Fullerton & Corona?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an '84 Fender P, marked MIJ on the headstock decal, and the story I've heard is that it was assembled in Japan but made entirely from Fullerton-made parts during Fender's move from the Fullerton plant to the Corona one. Is this story accurate? If not, can you give the exact run-down of that transition, and whether a Japan-made '84 Fender would have any/all US-made parts?

Thanks!

Fender still had a plant in 84. They sold in Jan 85 and no real estate or machinery was given.

Stuff coming out of Japan in 82-84 was made in Japan.

Caca is right. To add, there really wasn't any transition period from CBS to FMIC. There was a period when only MIJ was made ('85-'86,'87 ish). The only MIA CBS models that carried over to the new FMIC line were the RIs. There has never been any MIA wood on any MIJ Fenders, despite what some would like you to believe.
