Extended Range Bassist Builders

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey

First post on here

I did a search on Extended Range Basses and it came up with some really awesome threads with great basses.
But I"m really just looking for the names and builders so I can have a look at all of them and make a good critical desicion

So post up all the extended range bassist makers you know of!
From the very expensive to the cheapies.
To the most custom to the most direct stock.

Looking for a 7 string or more.

Many of the custom builders will offer 7+ string options. You should check out the ERB Club & see some of the pics to get you pumped up.

Also, you can take time to drool over pictures of John Turner's collection, our resident ERB expert and Moderator.

Here's a list of a few 7+ ERB builders. You can easily find them via Google.
Conklin - In addition to the Custom Conklins per their website, also look up the Conklin GT (Groove Tools) line, as they are relatively low priced production models

Surine
Wishbass even has a Hipper 7-string

They are NOT popular actually, but there is a growing, dedicated group of us that really like them for all of their "awefulness" and we are busy sharing that common interest. Clearly, they are not for everyone, and that's okay, it's a big world.

I'll give a nod to Stambaugh. Cliff Bordwell is about to build me a fretless 7 soon, although I don't think he has exceeded 7 strings at this point. Conklin is great....but first born expensive.

I believe Skip Fantry of Knuckle Guitar Works (and Circle K string fame) will build just about anything. He's currently building me an 8 string multi scale...

Prometeus, Carl Thompson-like basses, and at a very good price!
Listerud, very beautiful basses.
Jerzy Drozd, amazing masterpieces.
JC Basses, they look nice.
David Pushic custom basses (I don't know much about these).

I dream of an 8-string bass. Some day it will be mine. I don't think I'll be able to afford it, but...

I have a custom 8-string JC bass. His work has gotten progressively better since I ordered it from him 4 years ago, and his prices are reasonable. He's also great with communication.

Truth be told, anybody listed are incredible luthiers, great people, and will work with you to make a product you want in a body style that you want. You can't go wrong with any of them.
