I have long thought about ordering a custom Fodera but not after that.
I talked to the guy in Japan at the time who was running the shop and who was the Japanese distributor for Fodera and Bottom Wave. He is also a major bass retailer in Tokyo.
I'm also an arms length party and the scoop is that the whole thing was a bloody mess for everyone in terms of marketing/public relations. Whatever happened in the past is the past as Jason seems to have totally turned around the company in many ways that needed to be done. Its not exactly 100% fair to hang on to that bad taste as the company has gone through a great transformation in the last 2 years and deserves for the slate to wiped clean IMO.
The smoke and mirror less than above board world of FClef still remains as RBasses comes on to say he actually makes FClef basses now after the whole Fodera/Japanese shop thing self destructed among the Principles, this after George T. invents a scolding narrative to everyone who calls him out that he is the luthier and artisan and works in the shop on making basses personally. Hell, the logo of "Luthier Guild of America" on his site was lifted!!!
The answer to dealing with FClef IMO is...buy a Bottom Wave lol. They are even cheaper.
