Fender factory specs also dictate that the nut on the output jack be positioned so that two of the sides are parallel to the pickups.

Of course, that goes without saying. Also, the pick guard screws should all be aligned with the polar axis....

You may also note my avatar... the tuners should all be aligned with the neck. Vey precise string length is the key...

I used to have a problem like this... then I got planetwave cord with a switch in the plug. Liked it so much, I got another one for a spare!
