A fair price? MIJ Jazz Bass

Hey Guys,
My friend has a Jazz Bass from the 80's that is MIJ. He bought it for his son who no longer plays. What is a fair price for me to give him for it?

It's not an earlier 80's JV model, but still probably an excellent well built bass.

It might go a little higher if put on ebay but between friends.... if you're going to keep it and play it......$500 seems reasonable
