Well, you have to like Jazz Bass necks to like this one. Back in the day, I had a '64 Jazz, and this neck is a dead ringer for that profile. Feels great. The other thing I liked was that I was 100% guilt free when I sanded off the poly finish and did the Tru-Oil thing. I'd have misgivings about doing that even with a MIM Fender neck. Finally, the price. You can grab an entire CV Jazz for $250 (about what I paid new back when I got it; retail is more now, but you can still find them for that). Guys are parting them out and selling them on eBay, too. I bought my 2nd CV neck for $80.
I've paired these CV necks with GFS lightweight jazz bodies (both of them under 3lbs). So the finished basses are 7.5 lbs, which is awesome for gig basses. So at $80 for the neck and $70 for the body, you've got a great platform for a parts Jazz that is perfect for gigging. No problem just resting it against your amp at a club--who cares if it gets bumped or bruised? One of these is set up like the bass I had back in college (BadAss II, EMGs, etc) and the other is a more "modern vintage" with reverse tuners, classic Fender bridge, and the new EMG JVX pickups (man, those are nice!). Great gigging/modding type basses.
