i bought this bass about a month ago and i know that warwicks finishes do fade but honestly it feels like this oe is fading very very much. i picked up a 5 string at local guitar center used and the black on that one seems way more coated than mine does. please let me know what you think and if you need different pictures let me know.

That might be a RockBass with a German trussrod cover. I've never seen a German Warwick with that style serial number before. Every one I've seen has been stamped. There's a serial number decoder on the Warwick site somewhere that will help.

"On instruments that were made between 1982 and 1988, the serial number is found on the top of the headstock. Between 1989 and 2007 it was engraved on the back of the headstock between the machine heads. Towards the end of 2007 we started engraving the serial number by laser technique on the back of the headstock below the machine heads. "

Look at that, the more you know huh?

Well anyways it says that yours is legit

Your serial # checks out. Do you have any finisher (e.g. Warwick's beeswax)? The Warwicks I have (and have had) always got a nice rub down once a week for the first 6 mths - year of their lives. Think of a surf board...once you build it up, you don't have to do it as frequently.

Finish colours can vary widely from body to body. Wood has a wide variety of ways it will take and show colour, even two pieces cut from the same board will not necessarily respond the same.

If you have a 'natural oil finish' you can treat it with beeswax which will darken the appearance. But if its a "colored oil / satin finish" then you just wipe it down, the colour is sealed behind the finish.

Sure looks like the real deal to me...

You're not supposed to use wax on the coloured oil finishes, just the natural.

Warwick recommends 'dunlop no. 65' guitar polish for coloured oil.

Also there's no way that's a fake

I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to oil the color oil finishes with the Warwick Beeswax, only the natural finished ones. I could be wrong, but you should double check that before you put any wax on it.

i wouldn't use anything on your neck. The oil from your hands should keep it in good shape. Beeswax could make it a little sticky and not slide so well.

The body doesn't need waxing as it has a finish on it. I wouldn't do the fretboard either personally.

When did these start getting made in Korea? Not saying that the Korean ones have weak finishes, just wondering when the changeover was?

This is a fake warwick.....http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.asp?ItemID=6797160
No brass frets, Controls drilled differently, and the Inlays are off. Would have bought it, if it would have stayed at about 50 bucks.

I would recommend downloading the manual for your bass from the Warwick website. It's free. Get it. Read it.

Waxing that body and neck is a huge no-no.

Regular polish on the body. Regular lemon oil for the neck.
