At lease he's not trying to pass it off as a real Gibson. He does call it a "slanted" bass guitar. And says it doesn't have typical Gibson markings on it.

Lots of things from the bridge, overall shape of the pickguard, knobs, its set neck and not neck through , the control cavity is way different, no serial number on the back of the head, tuning machines are wrong etc

I've got half a mind to unload on this dude on Ebay. He may not be listing it as a T bird but he's STILL listing it as a Gibson! That's moronic. He knows what he has and that it's not a Gibson.
The bridge, controls and tuner orientation aside, Gibson's Thunderbird is 34" scale length, not 34.5".

What's the significance of the "11230" in the listing?

Just one of the fine Chinese counterfeits that so many people ask about.

Yes, but he makes it clear he thinks it's either a fake or has been modded form an original Gibson in the body copy.

He calls it a Gibson and states "NO serial number or made in usa marking on back of headstock (it may have been refinished)"
pure BS

He should have described it as a "Gibson Thunderbird-like" bass or just said he thinks its a fake.

His wording is very clever actually. To me, if you're reading it as a fake you can tell, but if not... Had I not seen this thread first I probably would have missed the clues.

Exactly. Having Gibson in the headline is very misleading. He probably put it there so people would look at the auction and searches would pick it up.

Unless of course he really thinks it's a genuine Gibson bass.

I have seen so some slight differences from the Thunderbird IV that it looks like so we are NOT listing it as a thunderbird but the instrument is of high quality and similar in style to that model issue by Gibson.

There you have it.

Replica, yeah that's it!

That's what we refer to in the car biz as a "replica" when we're being nice, also known as a kit-car...

Look at that atrocious nut!

See... this is why I don't agree with guys putting Gibson TRC's on their Epi T-birds etc. Posers.
