Fake Gibsons...

Sign in to disble this ad
I saw a few fake gibsons today at a pawn shop, one was being sold as a fake but other was not. I asked the manager about it and he reassured me it was real. Just looking at it, it was questionable but doing a quick google search reveals its absolutely fake (just google "gibson 02005556"). What do you guys think I should do...keep in mind its not a friendly GC its a pawn shop, some what reputable with three locations, but nonetheless.

Even if you provide irrefutable proof, most pawnshop owners won't care. They're there for one purpose: to put the screws to customers. I'm not talking ignorance here, I'm talking intentionally trying to rip people off. He was probably more angry that you caught the fake than anything else.
For example, there's a Rogue 6 string bass here in Suffolk VA at a pawn shop for $950. That is not a typo. Here's the link for a new one: http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....ass?sku=519246
All that being said, congrats for catching the fake, and thanks for reminding everybody that we all need to be more vigilant.

Here's a white Les Paul with the same serial number and only $2800.

Not true as a general statement. There are unscrupulous people in all businesses, and ethical people in all businesses. Maybe you have worked for one of the former; I know a number of the latter in pawn operations.

Most of the people in any business are operating with the goal of getting and giving fair value. With pawn shops, the rest is up to the buyer.
