Question Is this a fake Jazz bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey!

Actually my 1st post, so hi 2 u all

I've set my old drumset on sale, and I've got offered a 4-string fretless jazz bass in trade - a pretty good deal I thought. I asked for some pictures and got these... I've done a fast search and couldn't find a logo that matched the one on this jazz bass. Alarm clock! Is it a fake or the real deal?

The headstock logo looks like a vinyl decal to me. Red Flag..
Oh, by the way... Hello!

The bridge cover is not genuine Fender. It doesn't have that big old "I paid $25 extra dollars for this" F on it.

More pics are needed, like of the bridge, heel, and maybe a serial number

I'm not feeling the Fender vibe, but you really need to give us a few more shots, the back, can you remove the bridge and pickup covers and take a shot, the headstock from the back, no distorted shots like that headstock got all stretched out of shape, it's hard to tell with pics like that.

Did Fender ever make a sunburst J without pickguard holes?

Might be the angle but the headstock shape looks wrong to me

no more pics are needed. this is fake.

Headstock is not a Fender and there is a reason why they sent you a angled shot from the body and not a full body one.

just avoid it.

Ask for a photo of the serial #? I suspect he/she will not be able to provide it.

Yeah, the Jaco model and there was a Japanese version too. This isn't either of those!

That looks less like a Fender than my Korean Squier.

Is the Fender logo raised? My 60th USA anniversary Jazz has a raised logo ( not common), looks similar

The knobs just don't convince me at all. They are too tall in proportion to their diameter.

That was my first thought. I wasn't sure though.

I agree, if it's a Fender (Squier), it's a VM Fretless with aftermarket covers and Fender decal.

Thanks for the fast replies! I've just recieved these pics by email, so guess there's some sort of reason why it's these angles. Guess I'll just tell him to go to hell with this crap..

It's not a Fender or a Squier headstock. Notice the sharp angle/corner by the E tuner.

Just look at the body wood especially under the strings, it screams SX or cheap Fender knock off.
