Fake looking stingray on ebay

Sign in to disble this ad
I was browsing ebay to see the current prices on used Stingray HH's, and came across this one: eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

There are many things wrong with this bass:
1- Tuners look huge
2- The made in SLO, is in the wrong spot
3- Is 4 bolt instead of 6
4- No back control cavity
5- Battery compartment is in the wrong spot
6- Bridge has no Music Man on it
7- Bridge touches pickguard/way to big
8- Pickup screws are different

I have reported it, but it still is listed, and the price keeps getting higher. Someone is about to be extremely disappointed with their bass.

That was reported and taken down once. Did you post this at the EBMM forum?

No I did not post this on EBMM forum. I did however see it before, then disappeared, then reposted. Did not look close enough the first time to see what it was though.

I saw this too and reported it before coming across your thread. A lot doesn't look right with that bass.

Total fake! Look at the real MM Stingray HH's here:

MusicMan Basses - 4 String Fretted Basses

So many differences it's not even funny! That huge pickguard touching the bridge is a big giveaway!

I just went to the EBMM forum and reopened the thread that appeared originally about this fake.

PLEASE report it to eBay.

Whoa. Honestly, I don't know if I would have been able to tell without explanation. Good eye.

FAKE

Bridge is wrong
"Made in" stamp is wrong
Tuners are wrong
Battery is wrong
Pickups are wrong
Neck plate is wrong
Nut is wrong for a 2011
Truss rod is wrong
Even the straps are wrong!

It's like an OLP with a replacement pickguard meets a fake MM neck with a decal and replacement tuners. What a loser.

Ya first thing I did after making sure it was fake was report it. A couple weeks ago, I saw a thread about Chinese websites that had knockoffs of major basses (MM's, Ric's, etc). Looked exactly the same.

I didn't know the SLO USA stamp on the back comes scratched up "new from factory".

I see what you're talking about. It looks like an OLP that has been re-badged.

Listing has been removed! Nice job to everyone who reported it. You just saved some poor soul from getting ripped off!

I reported it...

I also asked him why he's selling a fake Stingray as real
