I think the fact that the neck is made of wood is what he was alluding to...and Modulus normally use "branded" machine heads- I can't see much from the eBay ad, but the machines don't seem to have "Modulus" or the Modulus logo appearing on them.

I believe the VJ model had a wooden neck with a layer of graphite inbetween. At least that's what I remember from my music store days... although that's be slightly over a decade.

So? Everyone knows Modulus only uses graphite on the headstock facing.

My VJ's neck was all graphite. However, I know there were Genesis models that were built in the manner you describe.

None of that means this isn't legitimate, but I certainly understand the OP's skepticism. I'd ask the seller to be more specific about the model he's selling?

It could be a VJ neck. They do sell them seperately without tuners. This could be a Modulus neck on a Jazz (type) body??

I don't think so, but...everything is possible.

I thought the headstock was all wrong (if it were a genesis, the lack of the skunk stripe really bugged me). guess that's why i keep all you guys and gals around !

At first I thought it looked a bit funny myself, but then thought it could just be the Genesis version and the listing didn't mention it. Agree that you would need to clarify the model with the seller.

Well they don't sell Genesis necks seperately. The VJ neck they do. I have one. No skunk stripe. Standard J 1-1/2" nut width and 2-1/2" heal. You can put it on any body!
It really does look like just a regular VJ bass

Psh, rattle paint over aluminum foil

Putting on my serious hat, there are a few things that leave me scratching my head. The bridge doesn't look right (although the photographer is mostly at fault for that one) and from what I've seen when Modulus used a wood neck they had a strip of graphite running through it: http://www.thewalkaways.com/fs/IMG_1434.JPG

That being said, I know nothing of them short of their graphite necks and the whole Flea hubbaloo.

Plot thickens?

Been watching the auction... and then I see it ended "because the item is no longer available" and then I see this:

The new version of his ad

Note the missing picture in "Ad 2.0"?

Did anyone actually send him any questions?

Someone probably checked the serial number and saw it wasn't right.

That must be a newer development, because I have a Modulus from the late 80s and the tuning machines are Gotohs, and say "Gotoh" right on them.
