Is this a fake Peavey?

I have never seen a Peavey product with this headstock shape. And the Foundation lettering doesn't match any I have ever seen either. Perhaps a replacement neck on a Foundation body?

It may be an early one. I'm not an expert but I think it's legit.

Why would anyone fake a Peavey? It's not like they're rare or valuable. And it comes with the embossed case too.

(not hatin' on the Peav)

I had the same question! But I've never seen that style before either. Which makes it kind of special if it plays well. In fact, if it's a fake and it plays well, it's twice as special.

i have seen that font before ... i would guess if you check the serial, it would be late 89 - early 91. the stage between the pinstripe headstocks and the "star wars" font.

tuners, string hold down, skinny little nut, suuper ferrites, OHSC ... looks legit.
if the neck is anywhere near straight, i would jump on it both feet.

I had a early 90s Foundation and I vaguely remember the headstock having that general shape (I don't have a pic of it). Also, it DOES look somewhat like the 2-D version of the my Dynabass headstock.

I agree on the "Foundation" being funky but are people REALLY counterfeiting low end Peavey basses?

Check the sharper angles of the headstock in this photo underneath the Foundation & Peavey lettering (Handcrafted in the USA by). This is a good example of the headstock shape that you will see in old classifieds on TB.

The more rounded cuts on the Craiglist bass are different. Edit: See reference to Peavey transition logo in post, below.

'92 or '93 transition model/logo. These are actually quite common. I have a red one, a Black one and a modified sunburst one. They are probably the lightest of the Foundations and they still have the superferrite pickups. They do tend to be slightly neck heavy, but not dramatically.

Have two with that headstock...one fretted and one fretless. You should be able to get it down to $200 or so....

The DeArmond pilot shape is similar, but a bit longer.
