Family Pics Over the Years - Evidence of The Talkbass.com Influence

Let's start at 2004 when I first joined TB. I really just had two store-bought basses (Peavey Palaedium and Brice Fretless) and the others were Warmoth builds.

2004 Additions

I added a few in 2004 once I got sucked into the TB fray:

ZON Vinny

Fretless SC Stambaugh

There were others too.

2005

In 2005 the lot changed just a tad. I discovered Mr. Valenti, Mr. Furlanetto, and Marchlewski

2005 Additions

In 2005, I added a couple more...

Fender Geddy Lee

Modulus Q6 purchased from the late Adrian Garcia. It was originally transparent dark red, but I had it painted.

Yes, there were probably more in 2005.

2006

2006 brought the discovery of Mr. Zon and Mr. Sadowsky... and the Sadowsky In-Stock page.

2007

In 2007 I discovered Mr. Rob Allen and got in deeper with Zon and Sadowsky.

There were a couple of Valentis this year also.

2008 and 2009

I never took a family pic during 2008 and 2009 probably because the basses were in and out so fast, I never had time. Around this time, I gave Mr. Coppolo a try:

Haha.. before I discovered TB, I had ONE bass.. an EBMM Sterling (still have it). Now... I think I'm currently sitting on 12 or 13 and have probably bought/sold 50 or so basses.

2010

I "slowed down" in 2010, probably because I now realize what I really want in a bass. I've settled on Zon, Rob Allen and Valenti (April of 2011) to fulfill my needs for the foreseeable future.

Then again, you never know next year.

Ah yes, GAS... you cannot stop it, you can only hope to contain it.

Heh - my gas-powered journey has been over the last 12 months despite years on TB. I was perfectly happy for 10 years with a pair of zons:

Then decided I wanted to try a Sadowsky again and work on slap. Also ordered a Rob Allen at that point as well (actually had started talking about one a year before).

I wanted to drop some weight so started looking for a Sadowsky NYC. Found a used Rob Allen to tide me over while waiting for the one I ordered:

The in-stock page got me, but it didn't thrill me - finally figured out that 19mm wasn't really for me:

So found another Zon fretted to use while figuring out my next move:

Then the Rob Allen I ordered (originally an MB-2, changed to a Deep 5) came in:

That sent me down a RA tizzy - ordered a Mouse but found a used one to tide me over:

Then got the ordered Mouse

And tried a Solid 4:

Finally figured out that I'm not a 4-string player and sold everything with 4-string.

Wasn't digging the 17mm spacing on the Zon - decided to settle on 18mm which is what the Deep 5 is, so found a Lull PJ to cover the fretted thing:

Then got a Roscoe kick. Briefly tried an LG-3005 fretless but didn't dig the body style -sent it back

Ordered a Century 5FL (almost done):

And got a Century 5 to tide me over

Whew. Oh, and I have two Skjolds on order. Sigh...

When all is said and done, I *think* I'll be down to Deep 5, Century 5 fretless, and Lull PJ. Then maybe add in the Skjold 5s (fretted and fretless). I swear, then I'm done. Well, unless I switch the Mouse I had on order to an MB-2...

No pics of Sadowsky #4311, AJ?

That was the first bass I ever liked so much that I saved the picture on my hard drive. For a long time, it was my dream bass.

Also, that first Vinny is gorgeous.

At some point I'll post a similar family picture history from my six years here. It won't be quite as many as you had, but I've changed lineups quite a bit.

Now we need a comprehensive family pic, with everything you still have.

Sorry to disappoint Jim, I really wish I could have kept all the basses that have come through my doors, but I've had to move 'em to get 'em.

I currently own four basses...

* ZON TJ5 Fretted
* ZON TJ5 Fretless
* ZON Vinny VB4
* Rob Allen Mouse

... and one due in April. A Valenti vintage Jazz 4-banger.

Hey! Why yes, I do have a pic of 4311. I don't know how I could have forgotten the first bass I paid well over $2500 for. That bass was killer. I just wasn't an ebony board guy.
