I have recently joined the Stingray fraternity. I love the sound for the right tunes my band covers (there is little doubt in my mind that it doesn't trump the P-Bass on 75% of the Classic Rock covers we do, but the songs it belongs on it sounds great). ( www.RockBoxBand.com)
That said, I am trying to find "famous bass player" who play Stingrays...list 'em here.
Before you flame me, I am a firm believer that famous people don't make the bass, if you love it - play it, all those other words of wisdom. I am just curious cuz it feels like I don't see a lot of Stingrays on the big stage... (the big big stage anyway...) |

Paul Denman from Sade - Always mixed loud and prominent - on some of the old stuff it's clear the songs were written around the bass parts.
Deacon from Queen - Circa "Another One Bites the Dust" - trying to cop Bernard Edwards tone from Chic
Tony Levin - Pretty much been a Stingray 4 or 5 guy most of his career. Check out John Lennon's "Double Fantasy" and Peter Gabriel's "So" for tasty Stingray 4 playing. |

Bernard Edwards in Chic
Carl Radle with Eric Clapton
Pino Pallidino's classic fretless work with Paul Young (and others including Don Henley and Divided Gilmour)

I think I knew about Flea, and now that you mention it, I remember seeing old concert footage of Deacon playing one. Cool stuff, dudes (and dudettes)! |

Joe Lally is the backbone of that band and defined the sound of an entire list of bands to come after.

| | | | Yea Flea had a few. Back in his Ampeg days. Pino Palladino rocks a fretless here and there. Also, the dude from Linkin Park has about a million 4's and 5's, Tim Commerford from Rage used one a long time ago, Johnny Christ of Avenge Sevenfold, Mickey Madden of Maroon5 used a 5er (not sure if he still does. He's been switching from those, Sadowski's and now 62 P's). There are so many! John Myung uses a Bongo. Not a Stingray, but still MM.
