fanccy-queen/ maxetone basses?

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone ordered or played any of the "Maxetone" no-name Chinese knock-off basses advertised on ebay by a seller in China named fanccy-queen?
Such as this warrior 5 string copy:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Gorgeous-Model-M...item25612d8436

Also here's their website:
http://maxetone.com/JGallery/index.p...=2#subcategory

I'm sure the electronics would be generic, but the woodwork looks pretty sweet. I own an Antonio Tsai and I'm pleasantly surprised that it plays & sounds as sweet as it looks.
But I'm just wondering if anyone has tried any of the "Maxetone" basses or guitars, or dealt with fanccy-queen before.

Maxetone - Don't waste your Money.

My Advice, Save your money, buy something used at your local music store or Mail order from a reputable US location.

I have Purchased from Maxetone (First Name is Li). Not a good experience.

Ping me if you want to hear my Sob story. I will give him a chance to respond to my emails about how he will fix this. If not, I will post my story here.

Not to sound too suspicious here, but the post above seems to be written by someone translating their thoughts into English. "The making time is a little longer than local store"? "And comfortable playing"? No capitalization. Joined in March 2011 (so, in the past few days).

Could this be the Maxetone guy hyping his own stuff?

You're not being too suspicious. All four of his posts as a TB member are to hype his own wares. I see a fraud.

Well It appears Maxetone does not want to reply to my email. So here is an example of what you will get after 6 months of waiting and emails back and fourth to check on the status.

Checkout the Handmade NUT. This was supposed to be a Wide 7 string with natural walnut Top Just like the Picture he Posted on his old Website MAX639. Surprise! No Walnut just Stain or Paint with Fake Flame maple. Umm, I'm missing a String and the spacing is 16 mm instead of 19mm he said he would do.

The Varnish runs in a few areas, The edges are square and not rounded like his MAX639. The Pickups are low output and noisy and the magnets do not line up under the string so the C String is softer. The action was med/low but with several high frets and lots of buzz. It will cost me at least $300 to fix all of this and the Bass cost me almost $600.

If he had just shipped a Wide 7 like he said he would, I would be ok with the rest of the Flaws. I would have probably saved some money If I had made my own bass in a wood shop class. This was a classic Ponzi or bait and switch scam. So buyers beware!!!

Me Too

I got one of these off Ebay when they were still marketing under the name Hysong - same people.
The bass took forever to show up - a double neck 4 string fretted and 4 string fretless.
The fit and finish was good. The wiring was silly and needed to be redone.
The fretless neck had the same side markers you put on a fretted neck which is really annoying.
Long story short I did a TON of work to it, to make it into a good bass. I slotted the fretless neck
and put in maple fret lines(they should offer this) I replaced the weak single action truss in the
fretted neck with a double action truss from Luthiers supply, and the big thing was taking that
neck to a friend's machine shop to get channels cut in through the back to install two carbon
graphite rods up against the finger board without removing it. The neck now has two "skunk stripes"

So NOW it plays and sounds pretty good. Paid $399 for the bass plus
$100 shipping - The improvements cost me another
$100 in diner feed for the machinist and the truss rod and CG rods.

The real Murphy's Law of the deal is I got this for a band I was playing in, where I was switching
between fretted and fretless a lot...The band broke up the week after it got delivered.

I got the feeling these ones on Ebay are still there becasue he ran them off when he did my
"custom order" (fretted 4 string instead of a 5 string on top)
Double neck Green Trans 4/4 string electric bass guitar - eBay (item 390291757257 end time Mar-25-11 02:34:47 PDT)

Have a double-neck of theirs, a few issues

I have a double neck from them, and it's been an adventure to say the least. After about a year you can spot the multiple pieces of wood used to put it together, and the electronics have required a fair amount of re-soldering and re-working. Still having a ground issue. I ordered a second (whoops) before my first one starting showing real issues and I'm not optimistic that I will get it. They've gone radio silent via email and on eBay.
