I've been using P basses now before the trend hit since 1977. I've bounced back and forth with a jazz and more recently a Hofner club. Last week, I was recording and decided to use my Lakland Hollowbody with Darkstars and I was blown away the fat round tone I was able to get with tape wounds! I then decided to take it to last Saturdays practice and the guys in the band loved the tone and want me to use it on all the songs now. OK, no problem!
Anyone else have a similar experience?

I have an old pair on my Roscoe fretless and this is a huge problem so Im unsure if its that the strings are just old. I have TI flats on my Darkstar HoBo and I bet those tapewounds could sound amazing on it if they were balanced |

Anyone else have a similar experience? | I've been touring with a 1974 Jazz Bass all last year on my road gig.
Today at practice I brought out my Lakland Hollowbody w/ Darkstar pickups to try through our new monitor rig. I ran the bass through a Aguilar Compressor pedal into a REDDI into the board and in-ear monitors. The Lakland's sound was HUGE. The band wants me to change to the Lakland and retire the jazz. Cool by me. I love this bass!!
Weirdo setup: I have it strung with a G & D Thomastic-Infield flats and dead Pedulla nickel A & E roundwound. I felt the A & E flatwound strings were too boomy. |

Keep in mind that my action is very high too which might be affecting things.
Is there a humbucking setting for the Darkstars? My switch is disengaged because I heard the Darkstars are just single coil pickups. I bought this bass used. |

The second I thought was a coil switch mode. I'll have to on the Lakland forum and get back to you. Also the pole pieces can be adjusted. You might give that a shot as well.
