Fell in love with a bass...

Sign in to disble this ad
Disclaimer: Been playing (or, I should say "learning") for nearly a month now. Have a Fender Squier, it was a low-cost starter. I have no plan to suggest I am a qualified or experienced player.

However, I went by the local music store this week and ran across an MTD Kingston Artist, with basswood body and maple fingerboard.

LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT - beautiful, smooth, good sound...

Funny part is how I just read another "MTD" posting - it must be MTD day.

Given my interest, would any other MTD owners (or those in the know) care to chime in with opinions on MTD basses?

Thanks!

Chris

Was it this style Kingston Artist?

I used to play the older passive version (vol, tone). VERY comfy neck. Well built, had a look that fit into any situation comfortably and sounded good. Recorded well too.

What was the bass you saw listed at?

Yup, that's it, had a dark honey colored body, active electronics. It was listed at $599, thought that was very reasonable for a good quality (and attractive) rig.

Yeah I think they are very nice mid-price instruments with looks and feel that punch above their weight.

Tie it to a musical goal as a reward to yourself....when i can do X I WILL snag that hawt MTD

If you can afford it, and will inspire you to play more, I see no reason not to buy. I do understand the "reward" system, but I'm first and for most a fan of "do anything that gets you to play more" system...

BTW, that blue finish is stunning.

+1

Take a look at the amber, and other colors, too!

Not a huge MTD fan, but I gotta say, this one is pretty nice.

If you love how it plays and sounds go for it. I did the same thing and started on a Squier P, but it wasn't long before I had my sights on a used EBMM Sterling. I felt it was money well spent. You'll want to practice more because you'll enjoy it more. My next problem was my 15 watt practice amp didn't do the Sterling justice. I picked up a used SWR combo and then realized how poor the Squier P sounded. I'd look used if you can what your looking for.

That's why they make Squier and other entry level basses. Learn on them then move on to the nice ones. The Squier can't get jealous; contrary to what some TBers believe, basses are inanimate and don't have feelings.
