I'm looking at a used "relic" CS RI. The asking price is $2000. Seems a bit steep, but I know the new ones go for $3500 or so.

It is an incredible bass. What to do? If the price is not THAT unreasonable, I may go for it. Opinions wanted-I think its too much money, but I love the damn thing-been there before, right?

Later...........

I don't think it's an unreasonable price. If it's "the one", then go for it!!!

That's what used TM Relics go for. Rarely much cheaper, especially Relics, which are worth a few hundred more than NOS ones.

Great basses, I love mine but might eventually sell it on as I have an equally great '66 that does the same thing.

I paid around $1900 for mine a couple of years ago. Its a great bass. $2000 or so is probably reasonable depending on the condition.

I was able to get two brand new CS Jazzes for around 2000 each about two years ago but the CS prices seem to be climbing higher and higher. I'd say 2000 for a used one now is not overly high or a great price.

I have played some sublime CS '64 Jazz basses. If you decide to sell down the line, you will be able to recoup most or all of the $2,000, so consider it a free rental with a 2K security deposit.

I just bought one for $2350 in shell pink. $2k is a pretty good deal.
