I've read a lot of bad stuff about this bass, but it looks so amazing, I would love to know what you think of it- any good things to say about it?

Just curious as to the specific bad stuff you heard about. Can you elaborate a bit on that?

I know a lot of people do not like the aesthetics of them (ie., the blend of old and new features). I haven't really heard any negatives about the tone and playability. A lot of people think they're overpriced, but again, that doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the bass.

Hi,

A lot of people have said that it has a 'hum' to it and fret buzzing. Many have also said that under the nice finish it's basically just a MIA Standard P Bass... if that's so, I'd rather just buy a new MIJ 70's P bass for about £850, or a MIA Standard for around £1100

I think there may be some confusion here as there appears to be two different 60th Anniv Precisions.

Is this the one you are referring?

Fender 60th Anniversary P Bass: Shop Bass & Other Musical Instruments | Musician's Friend

This one has gotten great reviews for playability and tone. It is on the expensive side but an overall very nice bass.

There's another one that is also being called a 60th but it looks just like a modern precision.

I played 2 of these on Friday, a blond one and a sunburst one. Both were really nice but the blond was a little thicker sounding. Both were very light weight. Played them through a Mesa Walkabout Scout and an Ampeg SVT 4 through an Ampeg 4x10. Both played and sounded great but I preferred the blond one.

I'd love one of the blonde ones!

Well, you have to look for deals. Musician's Friend has a couple "used" ones (both blonde) starting at $1,199.00. Plus they have 10% off on used gear right now. That's $1,079.00 for used and $1,275.00 for new (as I think they're offering 15% off on new gear).

That said, there is nothing wrong with the American Standards or the MIJ's. I have both (in addition to the 60th Anniversary P). All are very nice. So get whichever you prefer.

Oh, and mine does not have a hum or fret buzzing.
