| | | | Oh, crap. Why is Fender torturing me like this? |
01-04-2011, 03:28 PM
| | | Man, I guess they had a huge surplus of Mike Dirnt bodies in the warehouse!
In all seriousness though, that's pretty sweet. At first it made me cringe, but I think it's simply the head-on collision of vintage and modern that's making me uncomfortable. But I'll get over it. Kudos to Fender for not simply releasing another '51 reissue! |

| | For the record, I don't love Raymond. | | Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Boston, MA | | I've been seriously G.A.S.'ing for one of those MIJ '51 P Re-Issues as of late, so I was excited by this news. I'm disappointed tho. I'm not digging the split PUPs and the standard headstock (they look way out of place IMO). It simply looks like a P with a different pickguard and electronics cover. I'll pass.

| After quick PShoping, it looks like this:
Indeed, its just a Pbass with 51 pickguard/knobs. IMHO, mine version above would be much bolder statement then this FrankenFender. They should do better for 60th anniversary. No offense, really, im not trying to start a flame war

Jazz, Fender is trying to combine different elements from all of the different P-basses over the years to make a unique P-bass. It is pretty common practice for anniversary models IMO. I like it, but I won't be rushing out to buy one.
