I was just wondering if this would be a nice quality bass.

a 78 or a 79 , black with maple neck, would be just awesome.....go play a few of them, they do get heavy on the shoulder.

good luck! post up some pics of what you find!

Are you referring to the recent MIJ 70's Precision, with the block fingerboard/position marker inlays and neck binding?

Or the actual vintage 70's P-basses.....made in the 1970's?

If you're referring to the former, I have one in the Olympic white (which mine is actually closer to a vintage white, has a cream hue to it) and it is a very nice bass. Excellent quality, in my opinion. I got it shortly after they were released back in July or June.

The new ones are very good plus, you get a great case, all the case candy, good if not very good mojo and build quality that's as good as its ever been.

I've been trying to find one of the new Fender 70's Precision basses to play but NO ONE (there are 5 Guitar Centers within a 50 miles radius of me) in the Wash DC area has them. I asked a guy at Washington Music Center if they planned on getting any and he said, "would be special order only, Fender just makes too many models so we only stock the popular ones."

I have a Reissue '70's P (made in Japan). Replaced the stock bridge with a Leo Quan Badass II and swapped the neck with a StewMac replacement. Like Borat would say: very nice!

why the neck swap? That's one thing I like about the 70's P is the maple neck with blocks.

The '70s reissue is one bad-ass bass. Don't' even think twice about getting it - just do it. You won't regret it.

+1

It's the bass I was waiting for my whole 20 year career. I own 2 stingrays, a Geddy Lee Jazz, and a Highway1 p. The neck on the '70s p beats them all hands down. ymmv. good luck

I love the neck also, I found one in a mom & pop store when they first came out. Loved it, but it was the sunburst and I want white, probably should've bought it then, haven't had the extra change yet. I even put my Peavey Cirrus up for sale once (glad it didn't sell) so I could buy the P, that data a lot IMO.
