Fender 71 mustang bass, i need to know the worth

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey i went intO a pawn shop the other day and saw a red faded 71 fender mustang. It has a little wear but still play. They had it up for $600 but said i could have it for $400.

Is $400 a steal, typical price or what?

One of the rules here is that you have to be a supporting member to ask what something's worth. I'm a bit curious myself though so...

Price check: '71 Mustang

We'll need pics (the exact condition matters and heck, we just like looking at pics). Welcome, by the way.

Edit: As Jeff Scott implies, it's a good price. 600 seems about right but I'm still curious.

On eBay I've seen 70s USA models sell for around 700-1000 depending on condition and how true to original specs (mods done). If you like it, I'd do it. 60s models fetch 1k and above.

I sold a 68 that was trashed but all original for about 900 three or four years ago on ebay. Mine was competition red with racing stripe and had matching color headstock which I believe was quite rare. I think who ever bought over paid for it though.

Hmm... I'm a bit surprised by how much demand there is for them. Grazie.

My drummer has a sweet mustang I'm pretty sure its a 69 to70 he said Its worth 1200 but is say that's alittle high. It's a nice bass but the problem with them is they need shortscale strings or they don't innotate properly. Then neck is a little chunky though like fatter then a p bass

Do it. 400 is a good price. I'm a big fan of those style Fenders, too- the mustangs, the bullets, etc. Buy it! If you end up disliking it, sell it to me!

Well, I thought that too, but was admonished that you can ask what something's worth if you're not selling it.

Are you kidding me? $400 is not a steal, it's a highway robbery.
