With an amplified electric bass, I believe most of the tone comes from the pickups, strings, finger/pick style, experience of the bassist, amp, and cabs. The wood has almost nothing to do with what people hear.

You know, I'd rather see that discussion go to one of the multitude of threads which already cover that subject from any angle. I'm not a Mod of course but this is specifically the "Aerodyne Club" thread.

I believe the point is important for anyone considering an Aerodyne. Calling it's tone "dark" because someone feels basswood sounds dark is misleading. It takes two seconds to make an Aerodyne sound brighter than Sirius or anywhere in between.

Misleading or possibly informative for some? If all other factors are considered equal, maybe tonal qualities in wood could be information. Of course you could alter the end product tone, that goes without saying.

Sure thing but there are nearly an infinite threads discussing "tone wood" on TB.

Basswood vs Adler or ash? So since all Squiers are basswood they must be dark!

Was the Aerodyne P bass basswood?

It was basswood with a flame... Veneer? Or a top.

Some Squiers are alder, agathis or soft maple BYW.

I've been a MM guy for over 30 years, and I must say, I think I've finally found my fit! Great looking and GREAT playing! They are LIGHT and extremely comfy with the J profile necks (a personal preference). Best of all, they are great sounding axes and the fit and finish on these are spectacular!

After taking possession of the P yesterday, I'm thinking of unloading one of the Js to fund another one.

2 increasingly rare non-strat-output CIJ Js and one CIJ P:

Number please!

If I was to mod my Aerodyne, I would make it a sexy gloss black, matching gloss black headstock, with black chrome hardware, P and J pickups... oh wait... I've already got one.
