Fender Aerodyne Jazz Replacement PUPs?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Everybody,

I am kinda new to TB, but it looks like the right place to ask for advice. I am looking to replace the pickups on my Aerodyne Jazz (P/J set up), and am looking for some input/suggestions/recommendations.

I've been looking at:
Nordstrand PJ4 Bass NPJ4SE
or
SD Antiquity II
or.... Fralins?

Definitely looking for split Jazz, hum canceling, 'cause I cannot handle the noise any moooore! ;o)

Any input is greatly appreciated!

I have no experience with Nordy pickups but I've seen enough people raving about them around here to believe that they are excellent pickups.

I'm an SD guy myself but I've never used their Antiquity line. I dont think the Antiquity jazz pickups are split-coil though. I'm almost positive they are old-school single coil and will only eliminate noise when the volumes are matched.

Dimarzio DP126 set. Its a Model P and Model J. The J is hum cancelling and it only runs $100 on GC.com

Thanks for the input. The DiMarzio's spacing is a bit strange and won't work with the badass II....

As far as I know Dimarzios are meant to be direct fit for Fender pickups. BassAss II is a direct fit for a Fender bridge. I don't think either replacement part is oddly spaced. You may want to double check? I'm pretty sure they'd work just fine and are more than on par with Duncans. Nordstrand pickups sound great, no question about it, but they're also in a whole different price bracket. But hey, get whatever you want...even if it's just for the name ;D

Thanks! I'll give the Dimarzios a shot. Reviews are excellent, but when I looked at the measurements on their website and measured the stock pickup, the dimensions were off. Maybe it's just the design.

I have DiMarzios and theyre perfectly lined up on both my P and J. I dont use BA's but I have had a bass with DiMarzios and a BAII and it was again perfect alignment.

I would recommend the Will Power P pup and the Area J bridge pup for the highest quotient of allsum.

DiMarzios also play nicely with Audere preamps, if youre so inclined. Good luck with your air-o-dine!
