Thinking of getting an american jazz, but also considered maybe getting the five string. How well does the B string perform on this bass? |

I have played four (all rosewood) MIA V's . . . the quality is darn great . . . great MIA feel, fit, finish, detail, sound. The B string is near perfect for me. For some reason . . . The standard V string felt . . . uh, er . . . "less" . . . I'm one of those who believe the extra $$$ of an MIA over a MIM is $$$ well spent.
I haven't played an MIA V with a maple fretboard, which is what I want. All my Strats and Teles have maple boards . . . I just like maple better. I also have a 4 string P Bass with a maple board.
That's why I haven't ordered one yet. Also . . . I want a sunburst with a maple fretboard, and since Fender doesn't offer an MIA V like that . . . I may have to pay extra $$$ and order it as a Custom Shop . . .
Second choice is MMIA V in Cola with a Maple board - no extra cost. |

| | | word. i have an MIA Pbass sunburst/maple fretboard. i thnk the overal QC on the MIA basses are a definitely better than the MIM. I'm wanting a black body/black pickguard/maple neck, and then gonna put all black hardware on it. just cant decide on the four or 5. if the B is good, ill go with a 5. |

The Fender strings that come on it from the factory are actually pretty good strings. I use D'Addario Chromes (flats) on all of my basses . . . they just give me a cleaner sound, as I'm an aggressive player.
I suggest you go play a few . . . and use a good bass rig when you do. |

What if I order that particular neck from Warmoth? Will it be perfect fit? Anybody have/had this experience?
Cheers

I was always worried about 34" scale B strings, but it's the bass that changed my mind about only buying 35" scale basses. I later bought a '09 MIA Fender P-bass V and the low B string feels even a tad better than my Jazz V.

| | | from the descriptions of everyones opinions, it seems that the newer the bass (by year) seem to be getting better and better. maybe fender is learning how to do it right, even if it is taking a few years. im gonna try to find one somewhere in town before i actually order one... i really want one though, so hopefully im pleased with it. |

Another thing to remember is that if you're not happy with the Fender, there are MANY companies or luthiers out there who have or can build you an EXCELLENT jazz-style bass!
