I`m not a five string player, but looking at the comments should I buy the five or the four string?

The 5 is 1 better.

But seriously, you should buy the one that feels right to you.

Spec wise they are the same... now the Marcus Miller V vs. 4 string is different as the 5 string is made in the US and the 4 string is made in Japan.

I personally am converting to 5 string (as per the music I play dictates).

Seems like an easy enough decision to me. If you don't ordinarily play a 5 why buy one? Unless the style you play in demands it and you have a bass rig that supports the lower frequencies of that B string all you have is one more unused or seldom used string to replace and tune and the added distraction of muting that B.

I had a 4 string Deluxe and it was the best Fender Bass I've ever owned. I also had a Modulus 5 string which was the best sounding and playing bass I ever owned but to honest with you I played the Fender 4 string more at gigs because it was easier to play with less concentration on my playing. You'll always gravitate towards whatever you're most at home with and I've played 4 string Jass Basses my entire life. JMO.

Thnaks for that soulman696, your right , I have thought about a 5 string just to try and something extra , but I think 4 strings is more than enough , and I agree the B string is sonically ( ! ) not my thing as slap quite a bit.

Silly thread. You answered your own question quite thoroughly.
