Fender American Jazz Special Vs. New American Standard Jazz

Ok, it seems to me that fender did a bit of a downgrade with their American Special line coming off the Highway 1 series. Whether you like the nitro finish or not, I feel like the Highway 1 series has superior hardware to the now higher priced American Jazz Specials. I'm in the market for a Jazz at the moment and find this a most inopportune time to buy a new Bass.

Firstly, what do you guys think of the American specials? I personally feel like they might be overpriced for what they are. Sure the fit and finish is pretty great and the neck seems a bit slimmer than an American Standard, but overall I feel it might be worth paying the extra money for the standard.

Also, I recently fell in love with a Lakland Skyline 44-60 which is going for $1099 at a boutique bass store near me. I know it is slightly off topic, but how well do the 44-60's stack up next to the American Standards?

Cheers
