I'd missed the $699 weekend but went in a few days ago to see if they had any American Specials under the thought they might go on sale for black friday. They did have a sunburst on sale for $749 which was very nice - so when i saw the 15% off coupon i wondered if they'd go 15% off the $749. They didn't but said they'd do it for $699. I left the offer on the table (would have been ~$640) with my phone, but they didn't call back. Oh well.

Then I got home last night and saw this beauty of a 1994 USA Peavey Fury on our local CL.

Long story short, $175 later - including a hardshell case and guitar stand - it's mine. I didn't A/B with the American Special, but from my recollection it's every bit as nice - and in "near new" condition. The protective film was still on the truss rod cover.
So I scratched my p-bass itch and saved about $550 in the process! I'm a happy guy! Love the old US Peaveys (still have a Forum and 2 T-20's).

I was lucky to score a hand-stained Honeyburst P at the GC $699 sale a couple weeks ago. As Buster Brown said, it is a killer bass especially at that price point. It is the most resonant of the seven Precisions I have, sounds great and I really like the neck profile.

I'm lightly modding mine with a new rosewood American Special neck (I think rosewood will look better with the honeyburst finish), a set of AVRI reverse tuners and some TI Jazz flatwounds. May or may not change the pickguard...the stock parchment one is growing on me and complements the body wood grain nicely.

I'll post a pic when I finish it.

I have also "lightly" modded mine....changed the PUP covers and strings...

Like you, though, I can't agree more. As a guy who owns several Ps, like you, I'm finding that this just might be the best P bass that I have played in a long, LONG time.

I thought the same thing, that a rosewood neck would look and maybe sound better. I thought a brown tort guard would look great. Please post picks when you're done.
