What have the american standards got going on under the pickguard?

A rout from the PU to the control area that is totally unnecessary

Un-necessary sure, but I've always thought that it was done to make production line pick-up and electronic installation faster.

yea, that is the only disappointment i have with my new 2008 pbass. it is such a well done instrument, and then you look under the pg and it makes you want to cringe. But, that is the difference between a custom or semi-custom bass and a mass production bass.
