Hi folks, Just a quick one. I saw a, AV 62 jazz for a decent price but the finish looks like poly not nitro. Anyone know if this was ever done? I can only find current info on it, so if anyone know the history of this RI a little better the input would be appreciated.

They give an American Serial #, but the neck could be from a different body. Are there any defining difference in the body, controls, or components(external, I can't open it up )

Being left-handed, my only chance to own an RI is to pick up a MIJ/CIJ, since the American ones to my knowledge have never been offered left-handed.

The serial number should be on the neck plate... not the neck itself. |

| | | | The American Vintage Series do have a poly finish, with clear nitro top coats. That's what I've gathered, correct me if I'm wrong. Probably the early ones were all nitro with no poly, but that was over two decades ago.
Edited to add that I was taking about the bodies above. The necks have always had an all nitro finish.

The necks have always had an all nitro finish. | The earliest (Fullerton) reissues have a very thin lacquer finish, but I'm sure they have some sort of (thin) sealer coat under the lacquer. Fender has been using poly as an undercoat (sealer) since the early 1960s (Fullerplast early on). Current reissues have a poly sealer coat and lacquer top coats; So there is nothing new here.

But it just arrived today and I'm at work. I'm pretty sure it is nitro now that is see it in person, and I'll be opening her up to check authenticity of the neck and body on Sunday.

I didn't have as good pictures to work with on evilbay. you can some small areas of bubbling at the neck joint, that was the biggest giveaway. also the body wear is consistent with nitro.
