Fender American Vintage Series P-Bass...Need Some Help !

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey folks. I was in a music store today and absolutely fell in love with a Fender P-bass that I had never seen before. The salesman told me that it was a new old stock American Vintage Series '62 RI. It was salmon colored with a tinted neck with rosewood fingerboard that felt incredible. he thought it might be from the late 90's?? There is no country of origin anywhere on it and it had the thin, spegetti logo and a V serial number stamped on the neck plate. It had a really nice, deep tone too. I fell in love with it although it has some scatches here and there. He was asking $1000.00 for it and said that it would have originally sold for about $1500.00. Can anyone identify wexactly what it is and what it might be worth? I really liked the salmon color too. Dont know the Fender name for it though. Thanks!

I don't remember them coming in that color (fiesta red) but I could always be wrong. Ask to pop the neck off. If its a real 62RI then its worth the 1000 clams. They go for $1500 new now. Used they go for about $1000. If the scratches are deep see if you can get him to 800 850

Yes they came in those colors in the 90's and I think maybe even into the early 2000's. They were also available in the 80's.

And as long as it's original and US made then it's worth the $1000 easily.

The scratches are not bad or through the finish and there are no dings. The color is fiesta red? Sure looks like salmon, not the red like on the CV squiers but, what do I know : )

From the late 80's through about Y2k they were available in all kinds of great colors. The one you saw was probably Coral.

If you're serious about it, tell the guy to pop the neck off, you'll find the written date.

There is no country of origin on the MIA 50's/60's reissues because the originals didn't have it either.

I had a Fiesta Red 62 RI a few years back 2000 or 2001 I think. I always referred to the color as "Milky Tomato Soup." In good shape - $1000 isn't too bad. I've strongly considered buying one to replace the one I sold!!

They came in Coral? I never knew that. I figured it was a faded Fiesta.

Early 1982-1986 Reissues were Fiesta Red.
In the 1990's they put out coral. (coral is a little darker)
If it's a early 80's Fiesta Red it's worth a few clams.
Fiesta Red was a rare color for reissues.
I'll give you a $1000 for it is if a 80's Fiesta Red

They definitely had fiesta in the 90's as well I have seen a few over the years.

The serial number will give you a ballpark date.
