Fender Bass Body Writing

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently picked up a 2008 ish MIM Fender Precision my mate who I got it from thinks that the body may be from an American made Precision due to the Ink stamp writing in the neck pocket, it reads..

PB - 57 D / EX 2 & upside down again in ink stamp it reads KANI, plus there was a white Fender Custom Shop carboard label maybe from a pickup box. Does anyone know what the writing means thank you.

"Kani" is Japanese for "crab", and is also a City in Japan, so perhaps MIJ (or "Crafted In Japan")?

I think its a MIJ or CIJ p-bass. The Japanese stamp the neck pocket or the pickup route with a PB-57, PB-62, etc for the model years.

You can take care of that with a stomp box that has a decent comb filter.

I would settle for it being either MIJ or CIJ.

Thank you johnk that makes me feel better about the bass. So it looks like a CIJ body & an MIM neck.
