Fender Blacktop Jazz, Upgrade Pickups?

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought a Fender Blacktop Jazz. I am thinking about upgrading the pickups. I read somewhere that the pups are run in series with 500k pots and that this complicates the upgrade. I was thinking about maybe putting a SPB1 in the neck position and a SPB3 in the bridge position to give me a more tonal variety. If I were to undertake such a task should I replace the pots too? Will I have to wire differently than how the stock pups are wired? Should I even bother? Do you think the tone will be that much different with Seymour pups? I was hoping to get less string clatter on the neck pup, more mellow sound and to get a more of a growl out of the bridge pickup without losing a lot of tone. Right now I have D'Addario Chromes on it and I have it strung BEAD. I play metal in my house and also modern christian stuff at the church. Hence all the desire for "tonal variety".
Thanks for the suggestions,
Mike
