This seems like the perfect Fender bass to me. Has anybody played one of these yet? Does anybody know what the street price is?

It's pretty sweet. What are you trying to spend?

For the price, you could get the "real deal". Generally custom shop Fenders are priced around $2k-5k, and don't hold much value, unless you buy a used one. I've heard they play nice though.

I'd just buy an early 70's P/J with jazz PU routed (this will actually take a lot of money out of the asking price). You could probably find one for around $2k or less. I bought my 75 "P/J" for $600 - it was a steal, but I've seen them for a just a bit more on Ebay.

Fender CS isnt the real deal? I kinda thought the Fender CS instruments would be made better than some of the vintage ones but I know what you mean. I guess its the combination of a p-body with pj pups and the b'nb jazz width neck and a nitro finish in a passive bass made in the USA and with Fender CS level of craftsmanship that gets me hot.

I guess the only drawbacks are the U-shaped neck. I prefer the c-shape and the color. I'm not a huge burst guy but I could definitely get used to it. If it was CAR or vintage blonde then I'd probably punch a baby for it.

Looks very Carl Radle-ish and thats a good thing.

Sorry, I didn't mean they're NOT the "real deal". They're FANTASTIC basses, and I've played a bunch of them.

It's just that I am from the school of thought that if you're going to drop that much on a brand new bass, especially a Fender that's supposed to look and feel old, why not get the real thing...

(I'm sure I've offended many by saying that, but it's just my opinion)

Also, punch a baby!? HAHAHA. Almost spit my water out of my nose

Man - I'm right there with you on this. That is my dream bass. Now getting hold of one is the challenge... I got this guidance from Mike Eldred who is the Custom Shop head honcho.. See below. Also, the best street price I got quoted is $3,350.00. Hope this helps...

My thought exactly! Probably in response to some Carl Radle Sig noise here on TB Should Fender offer a Carl Radle signature series P bass??? (Poll)

The answer was YES! GO TB!

I remember they offered Closet Classic versions of the Bass VI for awhile. Not sure whether or not they're still available.

Looks awesome, but now even Fender has jumped on the 10" radius bandwagon.

I don't like the finger rest mounted below the strings. Would never use it there. I'd use it up above. For $3500, I hope they would alter it. That's a lot of dough for some extra holes in your bass.

If that was a 5 string, I'd be all over it! Love the look, the vibe. All of it! Sweet bass!

I have something very similar, and it is a fantastic bass. A blues/rock machine.

'66 Jazz neck on a '70 P body. GREAT neck. Old Dimarzio PUs, TI Jazz rounds. 8 lbs. Got it about 9 years ago, for way less than $3000. (about 2K less.)

JimB52 that's awesome!

I guess I'll have to keep looking cuz $3500 is a little too dear for me. I was hoping for $2000-$2500. And that still woulda been a stretch. What a great bass though. Sigh.

I dont understand why Fender just wont make a passive MIA bass with PJ pickups and a jazz neck. I know Im not the only one who wants this to happen.

They did have the Mexican versions early 2000. They had the Mia California pj in the late 90's. They just didn't sell well. You gotta realize that were only a very small percentage to their market. They rather mass produce in other countries to sell a reasonably priced bass to the masses instead of marketing towards talkbass who wouldn't buy the bass new anyway. Or play 10 other same basses to reject the 11th one.

I like the idea of a PJ, but for some reason I just don't care for the look of a Precision body with a bound/blocked neck.

To each his own, but you're mistaken. They look great together.
