Fender Custom Shop

Sign in to disble this ad
hi all,

i have a '64 fender jazz NOS which i absolutely love. of all my basses, this is my hands-down favorite (i play mostly blues... this fits perfectly... see my thread: In search of vintage tone... )

i am at the point now where i am seriously considering ordering a similar jazz bass from the fender custom shop... a few questions:
- does anyone know the current lead times?
- does anyone recommend a particular master builder at the custom shop for jazz basses (i realize there aren't too many master builders there)
- can you recommend a dealer you have had good experience with regarding custom shop orders (i have basses from both bass emporium and bass central, good experience at both)?
- recommendations on the bass itself? (i love the '64 NOS, beautiful thin neck, passive tone is a must, slab type fingerboard, etc.)

i would appreciate any inputs, experiences made in this context greatly.

note that i am a BIG fender fan, so while i respect everyone's personal choices here, i am not looking to be convinced about other basses, build your own, better value for the money elsewhere, etc!!!

thanks from switzerland,
der basskopf

I agree; Fender is my only choice also. As you may recall, I have a CS 3TB '64 Jazz NOS. I love it so much, I bought (and just received Friday) another '64 NOS Jazz in Lake Placid Blue from Bass Central; this was "off the rack" also. I notice my 3TB has a "figure" to the back of the neck when the light hits it a certain way (like this one), but my new one doesn't seem to have it. It's a matter of taste, of course, but you might want to think about that when preparing your order. For me, I think the hardest thing for a custom order would be choosing a color.
