Fender Custom Shop specialists : Custom Classic IV 2010

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently purchased a Fender Custom Shop : Custom Classic Active IV. I like it a lot. Finish, setup, feel, all outstanding. But I'm not quite digging the electronics. It has noiseless jazz in it, and the active preamp. It is too bright for my taste. The Am Deluxes with N3 Noiseless are also too bright for my taste. The older SCN Noiseless were much better for me, but still like the passive vintage tone better. But I'm not even sure that the Am Deluxe with the SCN had the same preamp as in my CS Classic.

So, my options :

Change pickups for SCN's
Change preamp for passive
Complete change to Nordstrand/Fralin passive setup

Thanks for your help

Or for testing purpose, is it easy to bypass the active preamp and see the tone I would get just passive with the noiseless pickups ?

The custom shop lines do come with different/different frequencies picups and preamp.

My new fender deluxe 2010 comes with active passive bypass switch. Passive option works great.

Since you are a passive guy i would suggest changing the preamp to one of the new deluxe preamp (its exactly the same but with an active passive switch)

Ill give you the specifics later.
